Constitution
The rules governing the Portland Sheep Breeders' Group.
1. Name
The organisation shall be known as the Portland Sheep Breeders' Group (hereinafter referred to as "the Group").
2. Objectives
The objectives of the Group are:
- To promote and protect the Portland breed of sheep
- To maintain a studbook for the registration of pure-bred Portland sheep
- To provide information, advice and support to members and prospective members
- To organise and promote showing and other events for the benefit of the breed
- To liaise with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and other relevant organisations
3. Membership
Membership of the Group shall be open to all persons with an interest in Portland sheep. Membership shall be subject to payment of the annual subscription as determined by the Committee. You do not need to keep sheep to join.
4. Officers
The Group shall be administered by a Committee consisting of: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, Studbook Secretary, and such other officers and general committee members as the Annual General Meeting shall determine.
5. Annual General Meeting
The Group shall hold an Annual General Meeting each year at which the Committee shall present accounts for the preceding year and officers shall be elected for the coming year. All members are entitled to attend and vote at the AGM.
6. Subscriptions
Annual subscriptions shall be set by the Committee and ratified at the AGM. The current subscription rates are published on the Membership page.
7. Studbook
The Group shall maintain a studbook for the registration of pure-bred Portland sheep. The rules governing registration shall be determined by the Committee and published separately.
8. Amendments
Amendments to this constitution may only be made at an Annual General Meeting or Special General Meeting, by a two-thirds majority of members present and voting.
